Milk. Yogurt. Cheese.
Nearly everyone enjoys consuming dairy, but not so many people know how exactly it’s produced. Why? Because the dairy industry is hiding the truth from us, and for a very good reason.
After reading this article, the truth will no longer be hidden from you. Before I reveal it to you, however, I want to warn you that it is extremely disturbing, and hence not for the fainthearted. If you don’t feel ready to face it, I’ll give you three seconds to stop reading and remain in your comforting ignorance.
Since you’re still here, let’s find out the truth — the truth about dairy.
The Truth About Dairy
Like most people, you probably think that cows produce milk without end and have so much of it that they don’t know what to do with it. You might even think that all this excess milk is burdening their udders, and that unless we extract it from them, they’ll never be relieved of that burden.
This, however, couldn’t be further from the truth.
Cows — just like all other female mammals — produce milk only during and after pregnancy. Why? To feed it to their babies, just like human mothers feed their babies with their own breast milk, so that they can grow strong and healthy. This way, cows empty their udders of their milk and its burden naturally goes away.
In other words, cows aren’t helpless milk-producing machines. But the dairy industry has found a way to make sure that they produce milk as frequently as possible. How? By forcibly impregnating them once a year.
Here’s what this process looks like.
Firstly, workers in the dairy industry jerk bulls off to collect their semen. Then, they place cows in what the industry calls “rape racks” — that is, devices that immobilize the cows — and stick their arms into their rectums as well as a long steel device deep inside their vaginas to inject them with bull semen.
Sounds cruel and disgusting, right?
Well, the story doesn’t end here.
As we’ve already seen, cow’s milk is naturally intended for cow babies, not for humans. But the dairy industry doesn’t give a damn about that. It wants the milk for itself, so that it can sell it to us. To achieve that, right after a cow gives birth the dairy industry steals her babies, so that they can’t suck up her milk.
This, as you can understand, is a very traumatic experience both for the mother cow and her babies, who are crying for days after being separated from each other. But, again, the dairy industry doesn’t care about that. It cares only about filling its pockets.
You might be wondering: What happens next to the calves?
Well, when it comes to male calves, they are immediately sent over to the veal industry. That’s because the dairy industry considers them useless by-products, since they can’t become pregnant and produce milk. So why would it want to spend money rearing them, when it can just sell them and maximize its profit?
Now, the veal industry confines male calves in small stalls or tiny crates to immobilize them, sometimes with ropes and chains around their necks to make sure that they move as little as possible. Why? To prevent their muscles from developing, which helps keep their flesh extra tender. Terrified and frustrated, many of them lick each other’s face to comfort themselves. But in only a matter of a few days, they are killed and sold on the market, as if that they are nothing but products.
What happens to the male calves is extremely disturbing, but the female calves have it even worse. Once they become sexually mature, they will be forcibly impregnated just like their mothers, their babies will be stolen from them year after year, and they’ll be exploited for their milk each and every moment of their lives. And, once their milk production starts to slow down, they will be thanked for all their hard work by having their throats slit or by being shot in the head. This normally happens when they’re about the age of 5, while their natural lifespan is around 25 years.
So let me ask you: Now that you know the truth, will you continue consuming dairy? In other words, will you continue supporting the unnecessary exploitation, suffering and murder of animals that dairy production involves? I say “unnecessary” because dairy products don’t have any essential nutrients that we can’t get from other food sources, contrary to what the dairy industry wants us to think. And, considering that plant-based alternatives to milk, cheese, yogurt and so on are nowadays readily available in nearly every part of the world, what’s the need for consuming dairy products? There’s none.
When I learned the truth about dairy, I was so shocked that I never consumed it again, and since then I do what I can to expose one of the worst industries in existence today. My only question is, will you join me?
