Being entangled in the stress of our everyday lives, most of us don’t stop for a moment to contemplate on the vastness of our universe, and what part we’re playing in it. Focused on our temporal existence, we can’t see the wider picture. We’ve developed a myopic vision of reality that prevents us from developing a wider understanding of our relation to the universe.
The following video, narrated by astronomer Carl Sagan, puts things in perspective, by showing us how tiny our planet is compared to the totality of our universe. This realization can initially be terrifying, but at the same time it’s humbling, cutting through our egoistic delusion of self-importance, and placing a mirror in front of us that urges us to rethink our existence.
