“Let my soul smile through my heart and my heart smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles in sad hearts.” ~Paramahansa Yogananda
Immersed in the stress of modern life, many of us are striving with living, being exhausted doing things that we don’t want to do, spending most of our time not enjoying ourselves, and wishing that a big change happens to our lives that will help us regain the freedom, health, and happiness that we all deep down desire.
In my life’s journey I’ve learned that there are simple changes that we can make to tremendously improve the quality of our lives. Here I would like to share with you some of these changes that worked wonders for me, which I’d suggest you give them a try, and I assure you that they’ll make you live better, helping you smile more and be happier.
The best thing you can do to release your stress and find peace with yourself and the world is to practice meditation. Meditation can help you enter into a state of silence, detaching yourself from negative thoughts, and center yourself to the core of your being, letting all the good qualities flow out from within yourself, filling your life with joy and happiness.
2. Be kind
When we don’t behave kindly to others, we fill ourselves with negative thoughts, deep down feeling bad about how we act and behave toward our fellow human beings. From today, start being kinder to the people that you meet in your life’s journey, and I assure you that this will fill your heart with love and compassion, which in turn will put a big smile on your face.
3. Do what you love
When we were children, we were acting spontaneously, doing things that we enjoyed doing, and we found immense happiness in doing them, which made us pulsate with the joy of living. When we grew older, however, we started doing things because we had to, without truly enjoying doing them, thus suppressing ourselves and filling our lives with stress and sadness. If you want to get your smile back, just do those things that make you have fun, no matter what they are, and you’ll become much happier and live better.
4. Eat healthy
We think that food doesn’t contribute to our happiness, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Scientific studies have proved again and again that eating light, filled with nutrients, whole, organic plant-based foods can really boost your energy and happiness levels. Be sure to avoid meat and animal-derived products that burden your body and soul.
5. Spend time in nature
Many people overlook the positive impact of being close to nature, which is really amazing. Research has repeatedly shown that being in natural environments can increase our happiness levels and improve our well-being in general. So whenever possible, spend more of your time in nature, and reap the amazing benefits from it!
Creating is a good way to express yourself and release all the burden of stress that you’ve accumulated within yourself. Also, it’s a great way to find joy in what you are doing, being lost in the beautiful act of creation, forgetting your ego and connecting with your higher self.
7. Be with loved ones
Being inherently social beings, we all desire the company of a loving person, whether a partner or friend. Sharing our thoughts and emotions with others is helping us to better deal with life. There are not many things better than knowing that there is somebody who understands us, loves us, and is willing to support us in times of trouble. You don’t need to have a lot of friends, just find a few good ones and become fellow travelers in this journey of life, which at times can be harsh and alienating.
